Teckels’ Bright Future: All Thanks to You!

Your support has transformed Teckels’ future…

We are thrilled to share some wonderful news regarding the current state and future of Teckels Animal Sanctuaries. Thanks to your unwavering support and the astonishing response from our community, Teckels’ financial position is improving, but we still have a long way to go.

While we faced significant challenges in the past year, including the necessity to launch a public crisis appeal for funds, the outcome has been truly heartening.

However, it’s important to note that currently, less than 10% of our costs are covered by regular donations.

We are diligently working to expand this type of support through our marketing efforts, ensuring we reach new animal lovers who believe in our mission and can donate through our new website, with contributions starting as low as £5 a month.

The challenges we’ve faced are not unique to us; every animal welfare charity has been impacted by the legacy of the pandemic and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. The surge in pet ownership, followed by economic pressures, has led many new pet owners to seek our help in rehoming their beloved pets. Thanks to your support, we have successfully rehomed 70 dogs and 98 cats this past year, and we continue to receive up to 50 requests a week to provide sanctuary.

We are pleased to report significant growth in our income streams this year. Donations and legacies have increased by an incredible 312%. However, legacy donations can fluctuate massively, making them unpredictable and difficult to rely on as a consistent foundation for our operations. Between 2022 and 2023, we saw a six-fold increase in legacies, which was welcome but not indicative of a steady income stream.

Our crisis appeal was incredibly successful as well, but it too was a one-off event. Funds generated through various events and pet adoptions have also seen increases. Additionally, our subsidiary, Teckels Boarding Kennels Ltd, contributed significantly to our income, allowing us to maintain and improve our services.

The board has reviewed and updated our 5-year strategy with a renewed focus on bolstering regular donations. We recognise that the sanctuary’s future relies on the generosity of our donor base, and we are committed to ensuring that every donation is used effectively to enhance our mission. Our ultimate goal is to grow sufficiently to convert more of our boarding kennels to accommodate strays and rescues, further expanding our capacity to help animals in need.

We are immensely grateful for the consistent hard work and dedication of our staff and volunteers during this challenging period. Their efforts, coupled with your generous support, have ensured the viability and longevity of Teckels Animal Sanctuaries.

Thank you for your continued trust and generosity. Together, we are making a significant difference in the lives of countless animals, and we look forward to a bright future for Teckels with your support.

Warm regards,

Sarah Johnson
Sanctuary Manager
