Summer of Tails: July & August Highlights
It’s been a busy couple of months here at Teckels – so this September update is a bumper one!
We held back last month while we focused on a very special story: Polly’s campaign.
If you missed it, you can learn more about her painful past here and see her incredible transformation so far here.
Our September campaign is dedicated to Nyx, a gentle stray who became a mum before facing a life-threatening battle of her own. Read more about her here… and donate to help her if you can.
As we wave goodbye to the summer, the seasons are already shifting – slightly cooler, darker mornings and evenings on those dog walks, and of course the inevitable random downpours at Teckels!
Through it all, our team and volunteers have kept spirits high and tails wagging, with plenty of heartwarming moments to share.
This update brings together highlights from both July and August – from adoptions and rescues to supporter shout-outs and community kindness.
Thank you, as always, for being part of our journey.
With love and gratitude,
The Teckels Team
Adoption Update
July and August brought so many happy endings for our animals – and lots of new beginnings for their families too:
25 cats adopted (17 in July, 8 in August)
12 dogs adopted (9 in July, 3 in August)
That’s 37 animals now curled up on sofas, exploring gardens, and settling into the loving homes they deserve.
Stray Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation
The need never slows, and the past two months have kept our team busy helping dogs in need:
10 dogs reunited with their owners (5 in July, 5 in August)
25 dogs transferred to other rescues (10 in July, 15 in August)
3 dogs became permanent Teckels residents (July)
Every reunion, transfer, and long-term placement is only possible thanks to your support, which helps us give every dog the best chance at a brighter future.
Dates for the Diary – Teckels Winter Ball
We’re delighted to announce that the Teckels Winter Ball will take place on Friday, 21st November 2025, at the beautiful Hatherley Manor Hotel & Spa in Gloucester.
Join us from 7:00pm until midnight for an unforgettable evening of dining, music and fundraising – all in support of the animals at Teckels.
Guests will enjoy a three-course meal, live music and dancing, and the chance to take part in our popular charity auction, with exclusive items and experiences on offer. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the festive season while making a real difference.
The Winter Ball is also an ideal opportunity for businesses looking to host a Christmas party with purpose.
Corporate tables are available for groups of all sizes, with special recognition for supporters on the night.
Every ticket, every auction bid and every donation on the evening will go directly towards providing care, shelter and second chances for hundreds of cats and dogs in need.
Nyx’s Story – A Young Mum Fighting for Her Life
Nyx came to us as a young pregnant stray, and just last week she gave birth to six beautiful kittens. She proved to be a wonderful mum – but soon after, she became seriously ill.
Rushed to the vets, Nyx was diagnosed with a dangerous condition called intussusception, where part of the intestine collapses in on itself. Without urgent surgery, she wouldn’t have survived.
Thanks to emergency treatment, Nyx is now recovering in our care while her kittens are being hand-reared in foster homes. Despite everything, she remains gentle and affectionate – and once she’s fully healed, she’ll be ready for the loving forever home she deserves.
But life-saving surgery like this comes at a huge cost. We rely entirely on donations to give animals like Nyx a second chance.
💜 Please, if you can, make a donation today to help cover Nyx’s care and ensure we can be there for the next animal in desperate need.
Gabi: The Purr Machine Who Beat the Odds
Back in April, Misha – a heavily pregnant stray – came into Teckels and soon gave birth to a beautiful litter of kittens. Among them was little Gabi.
From the start, Gabi was noticeably smaller than her siblings. She was slower to develop and always just that little bit behind the rest. Our vets tested her for all the obvious conditions, but nothing significant showed up – she was simply tiny and taking things at her own pace.
Despite her slow start, Gabi grew into a lively, affectionate kitten – and she’s now been adopted into a wonderful home. Her new family say she’s a complete “purr machine” who loves nothing more than zooming around like a little whirlwind. She’s even developed a quirky love for watching the tennis on TV!
Happily, all of Gabi’s siblings – and mum Misha – have also found their forever homes, each enjoying the love and security they deserve.
The Spaniel Squad: Vera, Velma & Friends
In July, we also had the joy of welcoming six lively sprocker spaniel puppies into our care, the result of an unexpected and unplanned litter. Born in one of our foster homes, they enjoyed the comfort and security of a loving environment in their earliest weeks before moving to the centre for extra TLC from our team.
All six pups were girls, and we gave them names inspired by famous female detectives: Vera, Velma, Miss Marple, Cagney, Lacey and Nancy Drew. True to their namesakes, they were curious, mischievous and always investigating something new!
By the end of July, every single one had been adopted. Some went to families with children, some joined homes with cats, and others settled in alongside fellow dogs. Their adopters tell us they are thriving – busy exploring, bonding with their new families, and generally causing the kind of happy chaos only spaniel pups can!
Demand for Relinquishing Animals
Just like June, we’ve seen an increasing number of people seeking to relinquish animals in need.
In July and August, we received over 100 calls and emails from individuals looking to rehome dogs and 90 for cats.
Teckels’ commitment to helping animals in need and finding them loving homes remains unwavering.
