September 2024 – Adoption Update

Here’s the latest update from the Sanctuary…

September came and went with more raindrops than rays of sunshine, signalling that autumn had truly arrived. The trees are transforming into their vibrant autumnal colours, and there’s a fresh, crisp feeling in the air—perfect for those invigorating dog walks, even if the skies are a bit grey.

Despite missing out on warmer days, we’re welcoming the cosy comforts of the new season with open arms.

We hope you found moments of joy and relaxation amidst the wet weather.

As we step into October, there’s a wealth of exciting things on the horizon here at Teckels…

A Note of Gratitude…

Our dedicated team continues to work tirelessly to provide a nurturing environment for our cats and dogs in need. Your ongoing support is vital to these efforts, and we are incredibly grateful for it.

These achievements would not have been possible without your unwavering generosity and support. Your donations have been the cornerstone of our mission, offering care, shelter, and new beginnings to animals in need.

Moose on the Loose: How a Brave Pup Overcame Challenges to Find Hope

We’d like to introduce you to Moose, a gentle and affectionate bulldog cross who has quickly become a favourite here at Teckels. Found wandering alone as a local stray, Moose’s early life is a bit of a mystery, but his journey with us has been nothing short of remarkable.

At just under a year old, Moose arrived at our sanctuary facing several challenges. Physically, he had a noticeable hernia on his tummy and required eyelid surgery to alleviate discomfort caused by entropion, a condition in which the eyelid turns inward. These issues made daily life uncomfortable for him, and we knew immediate medical attention was necessary.

Emotionally, Moose was understandably shaken. Upon arrival, he was extremely frightened—cowering in corners and even wetting himself out of sheer anxiety. Evidently, he hadn’t experienced the kindness and security that every young dog deserves.

His fearful behaviour tugged at our heartstrings and motivated us to give him all the love and care we could provide.

Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers set to work not just to address his medical needs but also to heal his emotional wounds. With endless patience, gentle encouragement, and plenty of tasty treats, we began to see a transformation. Moose realised that he was in a safe place, surrounded by people who cared for him.

Day by day, his confidence grew. He began to emerge from his shell, revealing a playful and loving personality. Now, Moose eagerly greets us each morning with a wagging tail and a joyful sparkle in his eyes. He absolutely loves going for walks, exploring the world with newfound curiosity. One of his most endearing quirks is his desire to sit on people’s laps—completely unaware of his larger size!

It’s a sight that never fails to bring smiles and laughter to everyone around.

Moose will undergo surgery on the 18th October for his hernia, eye and he’ll be neutered (the poor chap!)  and we’re sure he’ll recover beautifully. The hernia will be repaired, and his eyelid surgery will made a world of difference to his comfort and vision. He’ll be healthier, happier, and more energetic than ever.

Next week marks an exciting milestone for Moose.

He’ll be officially ready for adoption and is eagerly waiting to find a forever home where he can continue to thrive. We’re looking for a family that can offer him the love, patience, and stability he deserves. Given his past, a calm and nurturing environment would be ideal to help him continue building his confidence.

If you’re searching for a loyal companion who will shower you with affection and perhaps try to share your favourite chair, Moose might just be the perfect addition to your family. He has so much love to give and is ready to embark on the next chapter of his life.

Please consider opening your heart and home to Moose.

Come meet him at Teckels, and let his gentle spirit and loving nature win you over, just as he has with all of us.
