Here’s the latest update from the Sanctuary…
October has been a wonderfully busy month here at Teckels, filled with exciting events and big strides in our mission to care for animals in need.
With autumn in full swing, we’ve been gearing up for some important dates on our calendar, including the Winter Ball, the shop opening, and our ever-popular Winter Fair and Dog Show. Each of these events requires a lot of planning and preparation, and we’re so grateful to our team and supporters who are helping make it all possible.
This month, we’ve also seen a surge in rescues, with double the number of stray animals coming through our doors compared to September.
Our team has worked tirelessly to ensure each one is cared for, comforted, and set on the path to a brighter future. And we’re thrilled to report that our rehoming efforts have doubled as well—meaning so many more of our beloved residents have found their forever homes this month.
As the leaves turn and the days grow shorter, we’re embracing the cosy comforts of the season and all the wonderful opportunities to connect with our community.
Thank you for sharing this journey with us. We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events!

A Note of Gratitude…
Our dedicated team continues to work tirelessly to provide a nurturing environment for our cats and dogs in need. Your ongoing support is vital to these efforts, and we are incredibly grateful for it.
These achievements would not have been possible without your unwavering generosity and support. Your donations have been the cornerstone of our mission, offering care, shelter, and new beginnings to animals in need.
From Grease to Grace: The Remarkable Rescue and Rehoming of Shadow and Sombra
Shadow and Sombra, two tiny black kittens, arrived at our sanctuary on 17th August under rather unusual circumstances. A member of the public found them huddled together under the bonnet of a lorry, completely covered in oil and looking lost but inseparable (see the first image above).
At just five weeks old, they were fragile and frightened, their little coats slick with grease. But even through the smudges of oil, their bright eyes were filled with a resilient sparkle that told us they were fighters.
Our first task was to clean them up—a delicate process that took time and patience. Once they were clean, we noticed that their skin was quite sensitive, likely irritated from the oil exposure and the harsh outdoor environment. Our team diligently cared for their skin, providing soothing treatments to help them heal. Over time, Shadow and Sombra began to show their playful, mischievous personalities, romping around as if they’d forgotten all about their rough start in life.
They stayed with us for just under two months, growing stronger each day and charming everyone they met. Eventually, they were rehomed separately, each finding a new family to call their own. Shadow and Sombra’s journey is a reminder of the resilience of these little animals—and of the difference that love, care, and a second chance can make.
Demand for Relinquishing Animals
Just like September, we’ve seen an increasing number of people seeking to relinquish animals in need.
In October, we received over 100 calls and emails from individuals looking to rehome dogs and 90 for cats.
Teckels’ commitment to helping animals in need and finding them loving homes remains unwavering.
