Nyx was brought to us as a pregnant local stray, and just last week she gave birth to six beautiful kittens.
Despite being so young herself – only around one to two years old – she was a wonderful mum, pouring all of her energy into feeding and caring for her babies.
But soon after giving birth, Nyx began to show worrying signs of illness.
She became lethargic, stopped eating, and it was clear something wasn’t right.
Despite our best efforts, her condition didn’t improve, and we had no choice but to rush her to the vets.
After urgent tests, the vet discovered that Nyx was suffering from a serious condition called intussusception – where part of the gut folds in on itself, cutting off blood supply and causing some of it to become necrotic.
Without immediate surgery, Nyx wouldn’t have survived.
She underwent emergency surgery to remove the damaged part of her intestine and flush out the infection from her abdomen. Thankfully, the procedure went as well as hoped and she is now recovering in our care.
Because of her illness and exhaustion, Nyx’s kittens have been placed into foster care where they are being hand-fed around the clock. This has allowed Nyx the chance to rest, heal, and soak up the cuddles and TLC she so desperately needs.
Despite her ordeal, Nyx is such a gentle, affectionate girl. Once she’s fully recovered, she’ll be ready to find a loving forever home where she can finally enjoy being the young cat she is – cherished, safe, and cared for.
But the truth is, life-saving treatment like this comes at a huge cost to our charity.
We rely entirely on the generosity of supporters to make stories like Nyx’s possible.
Please, if you can, make a donation today to help cover Nyx’s veterinary care and ensure we can be there for the next animal in desperate need.
