November 2025 – Adoption Update

Fireworks, Fairy Lights & Finding Forever Homes

As the clocks go back and the evenings draw in, Teckels has been glowing with warmth — from snuggled-up cats in the cattery to dogs curling up after long, muddy walks.

We hope your own pets stayed safe and settled through Halloween and Bonfire Night — it can be a tricky time for our furry friends.

Despite the drizzle and darker days, there’s been plenty of light and love here at the centre, with new adoptions, community support, and the first signs of Christmas cheer!

🐾 Adoption Update

October brought more happy endings, with 7 cats and 1 dog finding their forever homes.

Our cattery has been especially lively, and the team has been working tirelessly to prepare more cats and kittens for rehoming before winter sets in.

🚨 Stray Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation

The need for rescue and rehoming remains high:

  • 21 stray dogs came into our care
  • 10 transferred to partner rescues for their best chance of rehoming
  • 9 reunited happily with their owners
  • 1 became a permanent Teckels resident

Every single success story is only possible thanks to your ongoing kindness, donations, and belief in what we do.

🎁 Christmas Shoebox Appeal 2025

Our Christmas Shoebox Appeal is back, helping us bring a little extra sparkle to the animals spending the festive season with us.

The shoeboxes don’t just make Christmas day special — they help us bring joy to the centre for months to come. We spread out the gift-giving so that the dogs and cats in our care have new toys and treats to enjoy long into the new year, keeping their days fun, varied, and enriching. We even use some of the items as part of our daily enrichment activities!

You can drop your shoebox at Teckels Animal Sanctuaries, our charity shop, or any of the supermarkets where you see our food collection points.

We’d love items like:

  • Tinned hot dogs (great for tempting shy dogs or hiding medication)
  • Tinned tuna or sardines for our feline friends
  • Soft training treats
  • Cat toys – especially interactive ones
  • Catnip
  • Long-lasting chews for dogs (like Nylabones, pigs’ ears, or Jumbones)
  • Hardwearing toys for our bouncy breeds
  • Poo bags
  • Food puzzles
  • Collars
  • Vouchers for pet shops (so our animals can choose their own treats!)
  • Rescue Remedy sprays or plug-ins
  • Tins of tasty food

Please note, we’re unable to accept rawhide treats.

Even the smallest gesture helps – a chewy treat, a cosy blanket, or a jingling toy can mean the world to an animal waiting for their forever home.

💚 Thank You for Standing With Us

As winter approaches, we’re reminded every day that Teckels isn’t just a sanctuary for animals — it’s a community built on care, compassion, and hope.

Whether you’ve adopted, donated, volunteered, or simply shared our posts, you’ve helped us give warmth and safety to animals who need it most.

From all of us at Teckels — and every paw, purr, and wag in our care — thank you for making a difference.

With love and gratitude,

The Teckels Team

💖 Nyx Finds Her Happy Ending

You may remember Nyx, the brave young stray who arrived at Teckels earlier this year, heavily pregnant and in desperate need of help. Despite being little more than a kitten herself, she gave birth to six beautiful babies and proved to be a devoted mum from the very start.

But shortly after her kittens were born, things took a frightening turn. Nyx became weak and unwell, and our team rushed her to the vets, where she was diagnosed with a serious and life-threatening condition called intussusception. Emergency surgery saved her life, and after weeks of recovery, gentle care, and lots of love, Nyx slowly regained her strength.

While her kittens were hand-reared in foster care, Nyx stayed at the centre to heal — and soon won every heart she met with her gentle, affectionate nature.

We’re now thrilled to share that Nyx has finally found her forever home. Her new family told us:

“I just thought I would send you an update on our lovely Nyx. She has settled in so well and is an absolute joy to have around. She loves playing with the boys, having a stroke behind her ears, and climbing up on the kitchen counter.”

From a frightened stray to a much-loved family cat, Nyx’s journey is a beautiful reminder of what your kindness makes possible. Every donation, every share, every kind word helps animals like her find safety, healing, and love.

Demand for Relinquishing Animals

Just like September, we’ve seen an increasing number of people seeking to relinquish animals in need.

In October, we received over 100 calls and emails from individuals looking to rehome dogs and 90 for cats.

Teckels’ commitment to helping animals in need and finding them loving homes remains unwavering.
