May at Teckels: Long Weekends, Little Wins & Lots of Love
With two bank holidays and plenty of sunshine, May has brought a welcome change of pace for many, and plenty of long walks for our canine residents. The grounds are looking greener, and the cats are making the most of the warmer weather in their outdoor spaces.
But while spring brings lightness, the pressure behind the scenes remains heavy. We’re continuing to receive high numbers of calls from people struggling to keep their pets – often heart-breaking, last-resort decisions.
The demand for rescue places has never been higher, and our team is doing everything we can to help, while making sure every animal already in our care gets the support they need to thrive.
Despite the challenges, April was a month of progress. Thanks to your support, many animals took their first steps towards a brighter future, and several found the loving homes they deserve.
Thanks to your kindness – in donations, adoptions, volunteering and simple words of encouragement – we’re continuing to give pets across Gloucestershire the second chances they deserve.
From all of us at Teckels, have an amazing May.
Adoption Update
We’re thrilled to share that last month saw a wonderful flurry of adoptions:
🐶 4 dogs found their forever families
🐱 19 cats rehomed – many of them playful springtime kittens, now snoozing on sunny windowsills across Gloucestershire!
We’ve got more animals going home every week, and it’s a real joy to see them starting their new chapters.
Stray Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation
Stray intakes remained steady in April:
🐾 11 strays came into our care
🏡 4 were happily reunited with their owners
🐾 6 were transferred to other rescues for rehoming opportunities
❤️ 1 special stray became a permanent Teckels resident and will now receive the full support they need

Cedric’s New Beginning: From Shy Pup to Arti the Adventurer
Cedric (now known as Arti) was part of an accidental litter that came into our care earlier this year.
While he and his three brothers had little experience of the outside world, our team gently introduced them to new sights, sounds, and people – always at their own pace.
Arti was the first to be adopted in April, and he’s doing brilliantly.
He’s still finding his paws and slowly getting to know the family cat, but he’s settling in well and soaking up all the love and patience from his new humans.
His brothers are still waiting for their turn – and we know the right homes are out there for them too.
Bianca’s Breakthrough
Bianca came to us at the end of December after her owner moved into accommodation that wasn’t pet-friendly.
A nervous, skittish cat with a history of being difficult to handle – even by vets – she found the transition to sanctuary life incredibly hard.
Our team worked tirelessly to help her feel safe: calming supplements, slow introductions, and a quiet routine tailored just for her.
She met two potential adopters who sadly couldn’t connect with her due to her fearfulness.
Then came the third family – who saw beyond the nerves and fell in love with Bianca’s quiet spirit. They were happy to give her time, space, and a chance. And guess what?
She’s now coming out of her shell, showing curiosity, and choosing to be near them. A true Teckels transformation.
Demand for Relinquishing Animals
Just like March, we’ve seen an increasing number of people seeking to relinquish animals in need.
In April, we received over 100 calls and emails from individuals looking to rehome dogs and 90 for cats.
Teckels’ commitment to helping animals in need and finding them loving homes remains unwavering.
