Lighter Nights & Muddier Paws 🐾
The clocks are about to go forward, the evenings are stretching out, and the rain even stopped for about five minutes last week, which made dog walks a bit more pleasant and considerably less muddy.
(Although let’s be honest, our lot love a puddle more than anything, so the cleaning bill hasn’t changed much.)
It’s been a brilliant month at Teckels, with some fantastic rehoming numbers and a few things in the diary we’d love you to know about.

🐾 Boarding Bonanza
A quick heads-up: our boarding is filling up fast, so if you’re planning a holiday this year, book sooner rather than later.

🐾 Adoption Update
February was a brilliant month for happy endings. 7 dogs and 11 cats found their forever homes.
Of those 11 cats, 10 came to us as strays.
Many were nervous and timid when they arrived, and the team worked hard to build their confidence, neuter them all and get them ready for rehoming. It’s a huge amount of work behind the scenes, and a real testament to Lucho and the cattery team.
All of the pups found homes, along with one very special older gentleman…
🚨 Stray Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation
Stray numbers remain busy. In February:
- 7 were claimed by their owners
- 14 were moved to partner rescues
- 3 became Teckels’ own
Every stray that comes through our doors needs assessment, veterinary care and time.
It’s a significant part of what we do, and your support helps make it possible.
🙌 Can You Help?
We’re currently looking for volunteers to help with reception and admin. If you’ve got a few hours to spare and fancy being part of the team, we’d love to hear from you.
Please get in touch at info@teckelsanimalsanctuaries.co.uk for more details.
Nic – The Pug Nobody Came Back For 💔
Nic arrived at Teckels as a stray around Christmas time, so the staff did what anyone would do and named him after Saint Nic.
Being an older pug, we fully expected someone to come looking for him. Sadly, nobody did.
So we got to work. Nic was neutered and had a full dental (not cheap, but very much needed), and in the meantime, he made himself right at home. A firm favourite with staff and volunteers alike, he was a cheeky little character who knew exactly how to charm a room.
It wasn’t long before the right family came along. Nic, now known as Ernie, has settled in brilliantly. His new family say he’s the friendliest, sweetest and loudest snoring old boy they could have wished for.
He’s become a wonderful companion for their other dog, Walter, and is very much living his best life on the sofa.
From stray to staff favourite to forever home.
That’s what your support makes possible.
Demand for Relinquishing Animals
Just like January, we’ve seen an increasing number of people seeking to relinquish animals in need.
In February, we received over 100 calls and emails from individuals looking to rehome dogs and 90 for cats.
We know that for many families, giving up a pet is a last resort – and we’re doing what we can to help keep animals in their homes.
Our pet food bank supports those struggling to feed their pets, and our charity shop in Stroud offers low-cost pet items to ease the financial burden of pet ownership.
Teckels’ commitment to helping animals in need – whether that’s finding them loving homes or helping them stay in the ones they have – remains unwavering.
Help us Continue Our Mission.
To our volunteers, fosterers, donors, boarding clients, charity shop customers and everyone who supports Teckels, thank you.
Every penny, every hour, every share makes a difference.
If you’d like to help make more happy endings possible, please consider making a donation today.
With love and gratitude,
The Teckels Team
