April at Teckels: Sunshine, Support & Second Chances
With the days growing longer and the sunshine starting to feel like it might just stick around, April has brought a real sense of renewal to Teckels. The daffodils are out, the catios are sun-drenched, and we’re enjoying seeing our animals basking in the better weather.
While April is associated with tricks and surprises, there’s nothing foolish about the work going on behind the scenes.
Demand for our services remains high, and our team is working flat out to give every animal the care, love, and attention they deserve.
Helping Pets Stay in Loving Homes
We know that many families are struggling, and keeping pets at home can feel harder than ever. At Teckels, we’re doing everything we can to offer support where it’s needed most.
Our charity shop in Russell Street, Stroud continues to offer pet essentials and bargains galore – with every penny going back into our rescue work. From collars and coats to homeware and paperbacks, there’s something for everyone.
We’re also running our monthly Pet Food Bank – offering free cat and dog food and discount vouchers for our shop.
You’ll find us at Starbucks, Stroud on Thursday 17th April, helping local families keep their beloved companions by their sides.
As Easter approaches, we’re reflecting on the stories of hope and renewal we’ve already seen this month – from senior pets finding forever homes, to shy animals gaining confidence and trust.
There’s never a dull moment at Teckels, and it’s all made possible by the generosity of our supporters. Thank you for standing with us, rain or shine.

Story of the Month: Charlie’s Second Chance
Charlie, a gentle 17-year-old gentleman, came into our care on the 30th of January alongside two feline companions. Their owner had recently moved into a care home, and with heavy hearts, the family surrendered all three elderly cats to us.
While Charlie’s two friends were closely bonded and soon rehomed together, Charlie stayed behind, patiently waiting for his own special someone. Though generally in good health, Charlie was clearly struggling – his fur was matted, his skin in poor condition, and he was noticeably overweight, the result of being unable to groom or move around as easily as he once had.
Determined to help him feel better, our team put Charlie on a special diet and introduced him to gentle daily exercise – short strolls up and down the corridor and time spent relaxing in the catio. Slowly but surely, Charlie’s weight began to drop, and his coat and confidence began to shine again.
Then, in early March, the perfect person walked through our doors – ready to continue Charlie’s journey towards health and happiness. On the 2nd of March, Charlie left for his forever home, where he’s now being showered with love and all the comforts a senior cat deserves in his golden years.
Thatcher’s Happy Tail
Thatcher arrived at Teckels after his previous family, unable to meet the needs of an energetic young hound, made the difficult decision to rehome him. With his boundless energy and classic hound howl, Thatcher quickly became a firm favourite among the staff – especially when he let out his signature bark at walkies time!
Fast forward to his adoption day, and we’ve received the most heartwarming update from his new family:
“We just wanted to let you know how brilliantly Thatcher is settling in since coming home with us on Saturday. He and our other dog, Milo, have bonded beautifully – playing together but also giving each other space when needed.
To our surprise, Thatcher has slept through the night every night so far – no restlessness or fussing at all. He’s taken to his bedtime routine like a pro.
He’s also eating really well – we expected him to be a little off his food while adjusting, but he’s had no problems and knows exactly which bowl is his at mealtimes.
As for the noise – we were bracing ourselves for lots of barking and baying, but honestly, he’s been so calm and content in his new surroundings that we’ve hardly heard a peep! He’s just such a happy boy, full of love, and we’re completely smitten.
In the evenings, he curls up on the sofa, leg casually flopped over the armrest, watching TV with us. It’s like he’s always been here.”
Thatcher has truly found his place – and his people.
We couldn’t be happier for him.
