Fresh Starts, Full Kennels and a Call for Helping Hands
We hope you all made it through the recent heatwave safe and well.
With more hot weather on the way this week, the paddling pools are staying out, the shaded spots are in high demand, and walks are happening early before the sun gets going.
It’s a really busy time of year at the centre.
Boarding is almost full ahead of the summer holidays, the rescue side of things is non-stop, and the phone barely stops ringing.
In one two-hour stretch last week we took ten calls and emails asking for help.
Your support is what keeps us saying yes, so thank you!
📅 Dates for the Diary
The Teckels Summer Show
Our Summer Show is fast approaching!
Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August 2026 (Bank Holiday Weekend), Fromebridge Mill, Whitminster
Our biggest event of the year is fast approaching, with stalls, the ever-popular dog show, and a great day out for the whole family (four-legged members very much included).
More details on the show event page here.
If you run a business or make something wonderful, we still have stall spaces available, and there are opportunities for local businesses to sponsor a dog show class too.
Visit our stallholder page to find out more.
We’re also collecting tombola prizes, so if you have anything you’d be happy to donate, we’d be enormously grateful.
To book a stall or donate a prize, get in touch at events@teckelsanimalsanctuaries.co.uk.
Spaces filled up fast last year, so don’t leave it too late.

🐾 Adoption Update
June was another brilliant month for happy endings, with 9 dogs and 4 cats heading off to their forever homes.
🚨 Stray Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation
Another busy month for strays. 20 stray dogs came through our doors in June:
- 12 were reclaimed by their owners
- 8 were moved to partner rescues
Every reunion starts with a scan of a microchip, so please keep your dog’s chip details up to date.
🐕 Hettie and Harriet: A Fresh Start
Hettie and Harriet arrived with us at the end of June after finishing their working lives as breeding dogs. Both girls are wonderfully people-orientated and soak up every bit of attention going.
Hettie has just had her spay surgery, making sure there are no more litters for this older girl. While she was with the vet, she also needed a significant dental with six extractions, and a couple of suspicious lumps were removed from her tummy. She’s now on the mend and getting plenty of TLC from Harriet and the team.
Veterinary care like Hettie’s is one of our biggest costs, and it’s only possible because of supporters like you. If you’d like to help us give dogs like Hettie and Harriet the fresh start they deserve, any donation, however small, makes a real difference.
Both girls will be looking for homes once Hettie has recovered, so keep an eye on our adoption pages if you think you could be their perfect match.
🐶 Pupdate: Luna Settles In
Regular readers will remember Mabel and her puppies.
One of them, Luna (affectionately nicknamed Runty by the team), has sent us some updates from her new home, and as you can see, she has settled in beautifully.
Moments like these are exactly why we do what we do.
🐱 Dot, Taco and Cow Find Their Happy Endings
Dot (mum) and her two youngsters, Taco and Cow, arrived with us together, but it quickly became clear they were much happier apart, each enjoying attention on their own terms.
Our team took the time to understand what each cat needed, and all three have now been adopted into individual homes where they can be the centre of attention.
Sometimes the kindest thing is knowing when a family works better as three happy singles.
🙋 Teckels’ Needs You: Volunteers Wanted
With the centre busier than ever, we could really do with more hands!
If you have a few hours to spare, there’s a role for you:
- Gardeners. Lawns need mowing, strimming and weeding at this time of year, and we’d love someone who can suggest hardy plants for around the site.
- Shop volunteers. Always needed, always appreciated.
- Laundry volunteers. With over 50 beds to change every day, keeping on top of the washing is a mission. Reinforcements welcome!
- Welcome and reception volunteers. Helping our staff greet visitors on busy days.
- Summer Show volunteers. Stalls, parking, admissions, all areas. Even a couple of hours over the weekend of 29th and 30th August would be a huge help.

Demand for Relinquishing Animals
Just like May, we’ve seen an increasing number of people seeking to relinquish animals in need.
In June, we received over 100 calls and emails from individuals looking to rehome dogs and 90 for cats.
We know that for many families, giving up a pet is a last resort – and we’re doing what we can to help keep animals in their homes.
Our charity shop in Stroud offers low-cost pet items to ease the financial burden of pet ownership.
Teckels’ commitment to helping animals in need – whether that’s finding them loving homes or helping them stay in the ones they have – remains unwavering.
Help Us to Keep Saying Yes
Demand for our help isn’t slowing down. Every day brings more calls, more emails, and more animals needing somewhere safe to land. It’s your support, whether that’s a donation, your time, or sharing our stories, that means we can keep answering.
To our volunteers, fosterers, donors, boarding clients, charity shop customers and everyone who supports Teckels, thank you.
Every penny, every hour, every share makes a difference.
If you’d like to help make more happy endings possible, please consider making a donation today.
Thank you for being part of the Teckels family.
With gratitude,
The Teckels Team
