July 2025 – Adoption Update

Heatwaves, Heroes & Heartfelt Thanks: High Spirits at the Halfway Point!

Can you believe we’re already halfway through the year?

July has arrived in a blaze of sunshine – and we’ve just come through a scorching heatwave that had us all reaching for the fans and ice lollies!

While the heat might have slowed things down for some, our incredible team at Teckels has been working tirelessly to keep our animals cool, comfortable, and safe. From shaded walks to frozen treats and paddling pools, their dedication – even in the hottest conditions – never wavers.

As always, the sanctuary stays open and buzzing seven days a week, and thanks to your continued support, we’ve been able to keep giving second chances to the animals who need them most.

This month’s update is full of heartwarming stories, special shout-outs, and reasons to smile – including a big thank-you to our fantastic volunteers, whose time and energy keep Teckels going strong.

Here’s to a summer of tail wags, cool breezes, and community spirit. Whether you donate, adopt, volunteer, or simply share our updates – we couldn’t do it without you.

With love and gratitude,

The Teckels Team 🐾

Adoption Update

June brought some beautiful new beginnings:

  • 🐱 4 cats adopted

  • 🐶 3 dogs rehomed

Each one now curled up on a comfy sofa, exploring new gardens and finding their feet with loving families.

Stray Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation

Sadly, the number of stray animals needing help remains high:

🐾 14 stray animals came into our care during June
🏡 4 were happily reunited with their owners
🐾 9 were transferred to other rescues for rehoming
❤️ 1 has remained with us and will continue receiving the support they need

Every stray tells a story – and with your help, we’re giving them a better next chapter.

Fizz – From Frightened to Flourishing

(In our care: 31 October 2024 – 11 June 2025)

Fizz and her sister Tumble arrived at Teckels last Halloween after their owner, facing financial difficulties, was forced to surrender them. Sadly the close-knit pair soon began to scrap, so for their own wellbeing we housed them separately. Tumble’s confidence meant she found a home quickly, but Fizz shut down – she spent every day curled deep in her bed, refusing to venture out while staff were nearby.

Enter Carol – Fizz’s awesome adopter. Spotting Fizz’s timid face on our website, Carol knew she could offer the quiet home this nervous girl needed. For nearly three weeks Fizz continued to hide, yet Carol never lost faith – and on day 20 the breakthrough came:

“The magic happened last Thursday night at 11 pm.
After two weeks of hiding under beds and duvets, Fizz climbed on to my bed making tiny baby peeps. She head-butted me, purred and demanded strokes.
She follows me round the house now, chats at the birds and has chosen toys from the basket to ‘attack’.
I haven’t picked her up yet but we’re taking it slowly – her sweet, affectionate nature is shining through.” – Carol

With patience and love, Fizz has found her confidence – and the happy ending she so deserved.

Albus – A Shar-Pei Cross on the Up

(One of five Shar-Pei cross pups – three still seeking homes)

Albus left Teckels only recently, but his new family have already sent this heart-warming report:

“Albus is doing amazing – not a single toilet accident and he sleeps right through.
He’s seen the cat many times and shows no interest. Today the cat even ate her cream while Albus rolled round on the bed beside her!
He jumped straight into the car after his walk, so we’ll keep journeys short and positive.
People still make him nervous but he improves every day, and he’s met a few dogs calmly.
We think he’s grown – he’s going to be quite large – and we love him very much!”

Albus’s story shows how quickly rescue pups can blossom with the right guidance.

Could you offer the same chance to one of his remaining littermates?

Jace – Two Years of Tail Wags

Jace was born at Teckels after his mum arrived as a pregnant stray. He spent his early weeks here with his littermates before heading off to his forever home with Sophie and James at just a few months old. Now, two years on, we were thrilled to hear how he’s getting on – and to celebrate his second birthday with this lovely message from his adopters:

“Hi,
We adopted Jace from you around 18 months ago, it’s his 2nd birthday and I realised we haven’t sent any updates. I thought I’d send some pics of how he’s getting on.

He’s such a special boy, a really old gentle soul and a funny character. He’s good as gold but still occasionally loves to punch when you’re not paying him enough attention! We couldn’t imagine life without him, and he’s a great sidekick to our girl Skye. Here’s some pictures of a few things he’s been up to over the last year.

Thanks,
Sophie & James”

From a tiny pup born in our care to a much-loved companion full of charm and personality, Jace’s story is one of the many happy endings your support makes possible.
