Here’s the monthly update from the Sanctuary…
Thankfully, July brought better weather, allowing for sunny walks with our dogs, and I hope you’ve had a nice, relaxing holiday as well.
The Euros have finished, and sadly, it’s not coming home — but if your dogs are anything like ours, the footballs are chewed up anyway!
Glastonbury gave us some fantastic music moments, and Wimbledon was as thrilling as ever — though our pups might think all those tennis balls are just a waste of perfectly good toys!
It’s been a busy year for Teckels so far, and the time is flying! We’ve made great progress, and with summer in full swing, we’re excited to see what the rest of the year has in store. Here’s to more sunny days, exciting events, and fun with our furry friends!
August & September are also exciting months for Events at Teckels, too!
Be sure to join us for the Teckels Car Boot event at Fromebridge Mill on Sunday, August 25th and September 8th. It’s a fantastic opportunity to find hidden treasures, and every penny from seller’s fees supports our sanctuary.
And save the date for our pub quiz on Wednesday, September 4th, again supported by the wonderful folks at The Fromebridge Mill. Gather your friends for a fun night of trivia and laughter, all supporting our animal friends.
Our dedicated team continues to work tirelessly to provide a nurturing environment for our cats and to find loving, permanent homes for our dogs in need. Your ongoing support is vital to these efforts, and we are incredibly grateful for it.
Thank you for being an essential part of their journey.
Adoption Update
July has seen another busy month of activity at Teckels as adoption requests flood in.
Here are our adoption figures for the month:
– Eleven cats have been welcomed into loving homes, where they’ve become cherished members of their new families.
– Three adoptions were secured for dogs in July, again slightly down against May and similar to June – we blame the summer holidays! We continue to be dedicated to finding the perfect forever homes and not just the numbers!
In our commitment to providing sanctuary to strays:
– We worked with the council to rescue 16 stray animals – slightly up on last month.
– Of these, we successfully reunited 8 with their grateful owners.
– This month, two of the strays stayed at Teckels, and the remaining four found refuge with other rescue organisations, which ensures that they continue to receive the care they need.
These achievements would not have been possible without your unwavering generosity and support.
Your donations have been the cornerstone of our mission, offering care, shelter, and new beginnings to animals in need.
Patiently Waiting for Love: Binx and Luna Find Their Forever Home After 6 Months at Teckels
Binx and Luna came to us from a loving family who, unfortunately, had to make the difficult decision to rehome them when their newborn was found to be allergic to cats. Both cats were in excellent health, well looked after, and neutered. Despite their good condition, the sudden change in environment was a lot for Luna, who was naturally shy and cautious.
It took time, patience, and gentle care before Luna began to trust us. Simple tasks like feeding and grooming were initially a challenge, but slowly, she started to come out of her shell, allowing us to do the basics without fear. Binx, on the other hand, was a bit more outgoing, but both were equally in need of a loving home.
Binx and Luna stayed with us for about six months without any adoption applications. We knew it might take time to find the right home for them, but we never gave up hope. Finally, the perfect family came along, understanding Luna’s shy nature and the time she needed to adjust. It was a bittersweet moment, but we knew they were going to a home where they would be loved and cherished.
“Thank you so much for your help during the adoption process! They have both settled in so well so far, lots of purrs and cuddles!
Binx has been playing with lots of toys since he’s been home and has really made himself welcome, it’s so lovely to see.
Luna has been having cuddles on the sofa this afternoon and we’ve even had lots of purrs from her.”
Summer Fair Success: Sunshine & Smiles… (and Shoutouts!)
We’ve just wrapped up our summer fair last weekend, and we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out to support the event.
The weather was absolutely perfect, and it set the stage for a weekend filled with fun and memorable moments for all. We were thrilled to see so many smiling faces, enjoying everything the fair had to offer.
One of the highlights was undoubtedly the dog show, which was packed with amazing fun and excitement. The competition was fierce, and the participants—both canine and human—put on a fantastic display that everyone enjoyed.
We were also honored to have Gloucestershire Police join us throughout the weekend. They provided incredible demonstrations showcasing the vital work that their dogs do in helping to keep the public safe. Their presence and the chance to see these highly trained dogs in action added an educational and inspiring element to the event.
We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to all of the stall holders and demonstrators who participated over the two days.
Your contributions were invaluable, and the variety of talks, demos, and goods on offer truly enriched the experience for everyone.
Each of you helped make the fair a vibrant and diverse event that had something for everyone to enjoy.
Lastly, a special thank you goes out to our incredible volunteers. Your dedication and hard work behind the scenes were the backbone of this event.
Coordinating and running an event of this scale is no small task, and we absolutely could not have done it without your tireless efforts. You helped ensure that everything ran smoothly and that our guests had a fantastic time from start to finish.
Thank you once again to everyone involved in making this year’s summer fair such a success. We’re already looking forward to the Winter Fair – keep an eye out on socials and emails for more details!
