December 2024 – Adoption Update

A Fresh Start: January at Teckels

As we settle into the new year, we’re already noticing the slightly lighter evenings – a welcome sign that spring isn’t too far away. Whether you’re sticking to New Year’s resolutions (most of ours are already broken!) or just taking things as they come, our focus at Teckels remains the same: providing the very best care for the animals who rely on us.

December was a month of hard work, happy endings, and special celebrations. Among them was a joint birthday party for Gracie, who turned four, and our receptionist, Jill.

Gracie has now been with us for over two years, patiently waiting for her forever home.

We hope 2025 is the year she finds it. If you’ve got space in your hear for a beautiful, brave and lively girl – learn more about Gracie and apply here.

Adoption Update

December was a busy month for rehoming, and we are delighted to share the latest figures:

Cats Adopted: 13 cats found their forever homes in December, and with two returning and successfully being rehomed, that brings the total to 15 happy endings for our feline friends.

Dogs Adopted: December was also a wonderful month for our canine companions, with 9 dogs finding loving new homes. Each one has embarked on a fresh start with their adoptive families, ready for a future filled with love, adventures, and plenty of belly rubs! 🐶💕

In our ongoing work with stray and abandoned animals:

  • Stray Animals Rescued: We took in 16 stray animals during December.
  • Reunited with Owners: 5 were successfully reunited with their families.
  • Moved to Other Rescues: 11 were transferred to other sanctuaries where they will have the best chance of finding a home.

How You Can Help

A huge thank you to everyone who continues to support us.

Whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, you make a real difference to the animals in our care.

Here’s to another year of giving animals the second chances they deserve.

Milo’s Happy New Start

Milo came to us when his previous owner could no longer keep him, and we’re delighted to share that he has settled into his new home wonderfully. His adopters have been giving him all the love and patience he needs, and he’s thriving in his new surroundings.

He still adores playing in the garden, but he’s also started going on walks, slowly building his confidence. One of his next big milestones is getting comfortable with car journeys—so far, he’s hopped in and out a few times but hasn’t quite relaxed enough for a proper trip.

His new family is working on this with lots of positive reinforcement, and once he’s ready, they have an exciting adventure planned: a visit to the paw park, where he can run off-lead in a secure field and experience the joy of real freedom!

Milo has also conquered the stairs and now enjoys keeping his owner company in the office during the day. In the evenings, he sneaks in for a cuddle while they read, though he still happily sleeps downstairs. He’s been incredibly well-behaved when left alone, settling calmly for up to 2.5 hours.

We couldn’t be happier to see Milo thriving in his new home, and we’re so grateful to his adopters for giving him the love, patience, and care he deserves. It’s heartwarming to see his journey unfold, and we hope you enjoy these wonderful photos of him settling into his new life!

Rahja & Her Kittens – A Happy Ending

One of December’s most heartwarming stories was Rahja and her kittens. She arrived at Teckels as a pregnant stray in September, brought in by a local vet.

Despite being underweight, she gave birth to five healthy male kittens in early October.

After weeks of care, all five kittens found loving homes this December, just in time to spend Christmas with their new families.

Once they were weaned, Rahja was spayed and has also been rehomed, marking a wonderful new beginning for all of them.

Morris’ Exciting New Chapter

When Morris’ owner fell ill, we knew we had to step in – and now, seeing him so happy in his new home, we couldn’t be more pleased. From the moment he arrived, he set off to explore every corner of his surroundings, his tail wagging with curiosity and excitement. Despite his boundless energy, he has settled beautifully—no accidents, no trouble, just a dog who seems to know he’s finally where he belongs.

At night, Morris sleeps soundly in his basket downstairs, and every morning, he greets his family with such pure joy that they can’t help but start their day with a smile. He has quickly become a much-loved member of the household.

Morris has also been embracing his daily walks, taking in all the new sights and smells with enthusiasm. To give him even more freedom, his adopters booked sessions at a secure dog field, allowing him to run off-lead while working on his recall. He absolutely loves it—sprinting non-stop, ears flapping in the wind, and returning home happily exhausted.

His family is already planning exciting adventures, including a summer holiday in the Lake District, where he’ll get to explore even more of the great outdoors. Knowing how much he loves new experiences, we’re sure he’ll thrive on this trip.

It’s stories like Morris’ that remind us why we do what we do. His adopters have even been recommending us to friends, one of whom has already booked to meet another of our dogs. We’re so grateful that Morris has found a home filled with love, adventure, and plenty of belly rubs—and we hope his story inspires more happy endings.
