Here at Teckels, it’s been a bustling couple of months filled with heartwarming stories of rescue, transformation, and the pursuit of loving forever homes.

Your generosity and support have made this all possible, and now more than ever, your donations are playing a vital role in our mission to provide care, shelter, and hope to animals in need.

Let’s delve into the remarkable journey of August and September at Teckels, where every contribution you’ve made has made a difference.

Big Doug’s Journey to a Loving Home

Over two years ago, Big Doug found himself at Teckels, when his owner struggled to handle his exuberant nature. Big Doug was a unique character who struggled to adjust to new environments and people. Our dedicated staff invested time and effort into helping him feel at ease while teaching him new tricks and coping mechanisms.

Local business showed their support by featuring Big Doug on their billboards around Gloucester to increase his chances of finding a forever home.

It was a heartwarming moment when, last month, a loving family fell in love with Big Doug’s squishy face and mischievous personality, welcoming him into their home.

Rolo’s Quest for a Forever Family

Little Rolo, the adorable sausage dog, found himself back at Teckels in September last year due to difficulties adjusting to major changes in his previous home. This marked his second return to Teckels through no fault of his own, making it even more crucial to ensure he found the perfect forever home on his third attempt.

During his stay, Rolo formed a special bond with his favourite staff members at Teckels, who put in tremendous effort to keep him happy. Last month, a loving couple from Yorkshire decided to give Rolo a chance, visiting Teckels several times to get to know him before embarking on the long journey home together.

Gently the Cat’s Heartwarming Transformation

Around March, Gently the cat arrived at Teckels when his owners could no longer afford his necessary veterinary care, primarily for diabetes treatment. His journey at Teckels involved hospitalization and meticulous efforts to determine the right insulin dosage. Gently surprised everyone with his compliance during daily injections and glucose readings. Now, he enjoys his new home alongside a canine companion, often curling up together for cosy naps.

Rehoming Figures

Teckels’ dedication to finding loving homes for animals continued throughout August and September.

In August, five dogs and eight cats found their forever families, while in September, the numbers increased to ten dogs and four cats.

Stray Animals

Teckels also met the challenge of helping stray animals.

In August, ten dogs came in, with four successfully reunited with their owners, and four transferred to other rescues. Two remained under Teckels’ care, awaiting loving homes. Additionally, four dogs were received from the police in August, although they did not go through the traditional stray system.

In September, seven dogs arrived at Teckels, with four being transferred to other rescues, one client’s dog still awaiting adoption, one arriving just yesterday, and one successfully reunited with its owner.

Demand for Relinquishing Animals

Teckels also saw an increasing number of people seeking to relinquish animals in need. In August, we received 126 calls and emails from individuals looking to rehome dogs and 86 for cats.

In September, these numbers remained significant, with 102 inquiries for dogs and 76 for cats. Teckels’ commitment to helping animals in need and finding them loving homes remains unwavering.
