August 2026 – Adoption Update

The Summer Fair is Nearly Here, Plus Fresh Starts for Frank and Teddy

What a month July was. The height of summer always keeps us busy, but this one tested us more than most.

A group of rescued kittens arrived with a nasty case of cat flu, and for the past two weeks much of our time, energy and resources have gone into round-the-clock care to get them through it.

They’re on the mend now, and it’s moments like these that remind us why your support matters so much.

Every donation helps us say yes when poor animals need us most.

There’s plenty of good news to share too, including two very happy settling-in stories, and of course, the event we’ve all been waiting for…

📅 Dates for the Diary

🎪 The Summer Fair and Dog Show: 29–30 August

Our biggest weekend of the year is nearly here!

Join us at Fromebridge Mill, Whitminster (GL2 7PB) on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August, 11am–4pm both days.

This year’s fair is packed with more to see and do than ever:

For the dogs: our ever-popular dog show runs across both days, plus a special doggy ball pit, paddling pools to cool off in, and photo opportunities to capture the day.

For the kids: police demonstrations, inflatables, games galore, and a magician and balloon modeller entertaining the crowds on both days.

On the Saturday, little ones can also settle into our kids’ reading corner for regular story times.

For everyone: a fantastic variety of stalls, from natural dog treats to handmade crafts, plus more food vendors than ever before.

And don’t forget our Summer Raffle, drawn at the fair on the Sunday.

Entry is open to all, dogs very much included.

Bring the family, bring the dog, and help us make it a weekend to remember.

Every penny raised goes straight back into caring for the animals.

🐾 Adoption Update

July saw 4 dogs and 6 cats head off to their forever homes.

🚨 Stray Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation

On the stray side, we took in 25 dogs, and we’re delighted that 12 were reunited with their owners.

Three have joined us here at Teckels while they wait for new families, and the remaining ten moved on to our partner rescues.

📢 A Couple of Notices

Charity shop donations: thanks to your incredible generosity, we’re currently unable to accept donations of items at the rescue centre due to space, so please hold on to them for now. We’ll let everyone know as soon as we can start taking them again.

Volunteers wanted: our charity shop still needs more volunteers. If you can spare a few hours a week, the team would love to hear from you.

🐱 From Humphrey to Frank: A New Name and a New Home

Frank (who you may remember as Humphrey) came to us as part of a group of cats who hadn’t had a permanent home for some time.

Our team helped them settle, socialised them, and made sure every one was chipped and neutered before finding their new families.

His new owners tell us Frank settled into home life almost immediately.

He happily roams the house, and recently took meeting a couple of visiting children completely in his stride.

He’ll be allowed out to explore the big wide world in a couple more weeks, but for now he’s making the most of his home comforts.

🐶 Teddy Takes It All in His Stride

Pickle, now renamed Teddy, is settling into his new home beautifully. Housetraining is coming along nicely, and he’s coping just fine without mum Pepper there to hold his paw. His new family tell us they’re completely in love with him.

There’s one more happy ending still to write, though. Pepper, Teddy’s mum, is still waiting for a home of her own.

If you think you could give this lovely girl the fresh start she deserves, see her adoption page or get in touch with the team.

Demand for Relinquishing Animals

Just like June, we’ve seen an increasing number of people seeking to relinquish animals in need.

In July, we received over 100 calls and emails from individuals looking to rehome dogs and 90 for cats.

We know that for many families, giving up a pet is a last resort – and we’re doing what we can to help keep animals in their homes.

Our charity shop in Stroud offers low-cost pet items to ease the financial burden of pet ownership.

Teckels’ commitment to helping animals in need – whether that’s finding them loving homes or helping them stay in the ones they have – remains unwavering.

Help Us to Keep Saying Yes

Every day at Teckels, we care for around 50 rescue animals. Dogs and cats who’ve been neglected, abandoned, or simply have nowhere else to go.

With your support, we rehome around 250 animals a year and rescue over 160 strays. Those we can’t reunite with their owners, we find loving new homes for.

We never put a healthy animal down. And we never turn away an animal in need if we have the space to help.

But as demand grows, so do our costs. More strays. More relinquishments. More animals arriving in worse condition than ever before.

Your donation helps cover the essentials that keep our doors open: food, shelter, warmth and veterinary care. It means we can keep saying yes when animals need us most.

Thank you for being part of the Teckels family. 💚

With gratitude,

The Teckels Team 🐾
