Here’s the monthly update from the Sanctuary…
As the days grow shorter and the evenings cooler, there’s a distinctly autumnal nip in the air. The long, light summer evenings give way to earlier sunsets, perfect for those crisp, refreshing dog walks as the leaves change.
While we bid farewell to the (few) sun-soaked days of July, we’re embracing the cosy season ahead.
We hope you managed to squeeze in some holiday relaxation over the summer.
It’s been a busy and exciting year so far, and as we head into the cooler months, we’re looking forward to the rest of 2024.
There’s so much to celebrate and even more to look forward to. So grab your coats, scarves and dog leads, and let’s see what adventures autumn brings!
September & October are also exciting months for Events at Teckels, too!
Be sure to join us for the Teckels Car Boot event at Fromebridge Mill on Sunday, September 15th and Sunday, September 29th. It’s a fantastic opportunity to find hidden treasures, and every penny from seller’s fees supports our sanctuary.
And save the date for our pub quiz on Wednesday, October 2nd, again supported by the wonderful folks at The Fromebridge Mill. Gather your friends for a fun night of trivia and laughter, all supporting our animal friends.
We’re also excited to announce our Winter Fair & Dog Show on Sunday, November 24th, at Churchdown Community Centre. Be sure to save the date, or head over to Facebook and mark yourself as “going” or “interested” – it’ll be a fantastic, festive fun-filled day.
Our dedicated team continues to work tirelessly to provide a nurturing environment for our cats and to find loving, permanent homes for our dogs in need. Your ongoing support is vital to these efforts, and we are incredibly grateful for it.
Thank you for being an essential part of their journey.
Adoption Update
August has seen another busy month of activity at Teckels as adoption requests flood in.
Here are our adoption figures for the month:
– 13 cats (lucky for some!) have been welcomed into loving homes, where they’ve become cherished members of their new families.
– Four adoptions were secured for dogs in August, an increase of one since July. We continue to be dedicated to finding the perfect forever homes and not just chasing the numbers!
In our commitment to providing sanctuary to strays:
– We worked with the council to rescue 18 stray animals – an increase AGAIN on last month.
– Of these, we successfully reunited 10 with their grateful owners – a wonderful result.
– This month, the remaining eight found refuge with other rescue organisations, which ensures that they continue to receive the care they need.
These achievements would not have been possible without your unwavering generosity and support.
Your donations have been the cornerstone of our mission, offering care, shelter, and new beginnings to animals in need.
Luna’s Journey: A Tale of Love, Hope, and her Kitten’s Forever Home
Earlier this year, Luna arrived at Teckels with a full heart and a unique story. She wasn’t alone; by her side were her five tiny kittens, eyes barely open to the world, and her mother, Betty, who was carrying a new litter. Both Luna and Betty had been found as strays, wandering together in search of safety. Understandably, they were overwhelmed and shy when they first arrived, huddling close to one another for comfort.
The team at Teckels could see how special Luna’s little family was, and they worked tirelessly to help them adjust to their new surroundings. Slowly but surely, both Luna and Betty started to trust the kind hands that fed and cared for them. Their kittens, too, began to blossom under the dedicated care of the staff, turning from frightened bundles of fur into playful and curious little explorers.
One by one, the kittens found loving homes, each one carefully neutered to ensure that there would be no more unwanted litters. With happy hearts, they left Teckels to start new lives filled with joy, companionship, and love.
Even Luna’s mother, Betty, found a family to call her own after giving birth to another healthy litter.
But Luna is still waiting. Despite her shy beginnings, she has grown into a gentle, affectionate cat who longs for a place where she can finally rest her paws and feel truly at home. She has watched her kittens and her mother go on to wonderful lives, and now it’s her turn.
Could Luna be the missing piece of your family? She’s a sweet soul who, despite all she’s been through, still has so much love to give. If you’re looking for a companion who knows the value of patience, resilience, and unconditional love, Luna may be the one you’ve been searching for.
Carly’s Happy Ending: From Stray to Family Favourite
Carly arrived at Teckels earlier this year, found as a stray. When she first came to us, she was a little shy and reserved, unsure of her surroundings and the new faces around her. But it didn’t take long for Carly to become a firm favourite with both the staff and volunteers. As an older lady, she had a clear love for the comforts of home—especially a big, soft bed and a cozy sofa to relax on.
The team at Teckels took their time helping Carly adjust to life in a more structured environment. They introduced her gently to walking on a lead, even near traffic, and slowly built up her confidence around new doggy friends and other experiences that had seemed a bit intimidating at first. With each passing day, Carly grew braver, and soon, she was ready to find her forever home.
Not long after, Carly was adopted by a loving family. Her new owners couldn’t be happier and recently shared an update with us, along with a few photos:
“Hi everyone! Just thought I’d let you know how Carly is doing. We’ve attached a couple of pictures—her new mum says she’s a beauty and, well, she’s definitely not coming back because she’s been such a good girl! Carly absolutely loves her walks, and after only a couple of little accidents, she’s become so brave and learned where her special door is. She now has her own big kennel with sofas, and even shares with Squidg, another furry friend. They’ve bonded well, and Squidg has been helping her settle in and learn the ropes around here.”
“Carly also has her own backyard now, which she loves. We just wanted to thank you all for the love and care you gave her before she came to us. You’re doing amazing work, and her new mum says she’ll be back in the future to adopt another furry friend just like Carly. Thank you again!”
Carly’s journey from a shy stray to a confident, happy family dog is a reminder of the love and care that animals like her deserve—and the wonderful futures that await them with the right home.
